About the Location

Park Overview

Nestled in Vancouver, Hazel Dell Park spreads across 20 acres of green space that feels like a little woodland escape from city life. Tall, mature fir trees blanket the area, creating a natural sound barrier that muffles urban noise and offers plenty of cool shade.

It's kind of magical how you can feel so removed from the city while being right in the middle of it. The park features open grassy areas ideal for throwing down a blanket for a picnic or tossing a frisbee around.

One of our favorite features is the network of paved trails winding through the property. There's a main loop with some gentle hills that's great for a casual stroll, walking your four-legged friend, or exploring with little ones.

If you visit in springtime, keep your eyes peeled for trillium flowers dotting the landscape - they're such a beautiful sight!

Picnic Facilities

There are two picnic shelters available for get-togethers at Hazel Dell. The east shelter is cozier with four 7-foot tables, while the west shelter is more spacious with nine 8-foot tables.

Both have electricity and water - which works well for family reunions or birthday celebrations. The larger shelter even includes a sink with running water and can be reserved if you're organizing something special.

Not planning anything formal? No worries. You'll discover plenty of picnic tables scattered across the park.

Some are tucked under the trees for shade, while others sit in sunny spots if you're looking to soak up some vitamin D while you eat.

Recreation Areas

If you're bringing kids along, you'll appreciate the two playground areas located near the picnic shelters. There's a play structure designed specifically for toddlers and younger children, plus a separate area with equipment that older kids will enjoy - including some pretty fun spinning toys that might make you a bit dizzy just watching!

The playgrounds sit in shaded areas, so the equipment doesn't get scorching hot even on sunny summer days. For the more athletically inclined, Hazel Dell doesn't disappoint.

The park houses baseball fields and a soccer field in the open areas away from the dense tree cover. These spaces are great for both organized sports and impromptu games.

Natural Features

What really makes this park stand out is its lush canopy of tall trees creating a peaceful forest atmosphere. Close your eyes and you'll hear the soothing sounds of wind whispering through branches and birds chattering overhead - nature's own relaxation soundtrack.

The park transforms with the seasons: cherry blossoms bring splashes of pink in spring, while autumn turns the park into a canvas of red and gold. The shaded areas provide welcome relief during hot summer days, and you'll likely spot various bird species that call these trees home.

Pet Amenities

Your furry friends are welcome at this dog-friendly park, but they'll need to stay on leash. The open grassy spaces provide plenty of room for playing fetch, and the walking trails offer an interesting environment full of smells and sights to keep your pup engaged and happy during your visit.

Facilities

You'll find clean, well-maintained restrooms with handicap accessibility across the park. They're equipped with sinks and air hand dryers - always a plus when you're spending the day outdoors.

Trash bins are conveniently placed around the grounds, helping keep the park looking tidy. Overall, the park is well cared for, with regular maintenance of both the natural areas and facilities.

Accessibility

Hazel Dell Park aims to be welcoming to everyone, with paved pathways making most areas accessible to those with mobility challenges. Just a heads-up: the parking lot isn't huge, and you might encounter some uneven ground in certain areas.

Despite being in an urban area, the park manages to feel secluded and peaceful - a peaceful retreat when you want to experience nature without traveling far from the city.
