About the Location
Park Overview
Situated on the west side of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Perkins Park sprawls across 59 acres of versatile recreational space. This space has been a beloved hangout spot for generations of locals, offering a little something for everyone throughout the seasons.
Situated in the aptly named Perkins Park neighborhood, this massive city park functions as a community hub where you can play, relax, or simply enjoy some fresh air away from the daily grind.
Athletic Facilities
Sports enthusiasts will find a variety of fields and courts for different activities. Several baseball and softball diamonds dot the landscape, hosting everything from intense league games to casual weekend matches. Word has it that a second baseball diamond is in the works, so soon there'll be even more opportunities to play ball.
Fancy a different kind of game? The park's tennis courts await your best serves, while the outdoor basketball courts provide the perfect setting for showing off your jump shot. And if volleyball is more your speed, there are dedicated courts available as well.
Disc Golf Course
The recently improved disc golf course at Perkins Park is popular with disc golf players. With its new layout featuring long holes that are excellent for practicing those power drives, it's no wonder disc golf enthusiasts keep coming back.
The course winds through wooded areas, adding natural obstacles and welcome shade on scorching summer days. Just a heads-up if you're new to the course: finding some of the starting pads can be a bit tricky, so you might want to tag along with a regular your first time out.
Winter Activities
When snow blankets the ground, Perkins Park offers several winter activities. Part of the space converts into ice rinks and hockey rinks, where countless locals have taken their first wobbly steps on skates - a tradition that continues with each new generation.
The varied terrain also makes for excellent cross-country skiing when the snow conditions are right. And if rumors are true, a second hockey field might be in the future, expanding your winter recreation options even further.
Family Amenities
Kids need to burn off energy? The shaded playground features equipment for children of various ages, with slides and swings that cater to both the little ones and older kids. Fair warning though - it can get pretty busy during summer months.
When it's time to refuel, the park's picnic areas and shelters provide ideal spots for everything from family gatherings to quick lunch breaks. You'll find two pavilions: a main pavilion equipped with restrooms and electrical outlets, and a secondary pavilion with outlets but no bathrooms. Picnic tables are scattered throughout, so you can always find a place to enjoy your sandwich.
Facilities
Nature calls? Restrooms are available in the main pavilion, however you should know they might not be open year-round and are sometimes locked except during special events.
Getting to Perkins Park is hassle-free thanks to two spacious parking lots that can accommodate visitors even during peak times.
Natural Environment
The park's landscape offers a pleasant mix of open meadows and wooded sections, giving you options for both sun-soaking and shade-seeking. Though some mature trees have been removed in recent years to make way for development, there's still plenty of leafy canopy to escape the summer heat.
One thing to keep in mind: given the park's low-lying location, certain areas - particularly on the disc golf course - can get pretty soggy after rainfall. You might want to pack appropriate footwear if you're visiting after a wet spell.
