In 1984, when fast food chains were popping up everywhere, residents near the intersection of Williamson Street (the locals just call it "Willy Street") and Brearly Street stood their ground against a proposed Taco John's restaurant. Their successful pushback resulted in something much more valuable - this land was donated to the neighborhood and transformed into the public green space you see today.
