The park's namesake, Samuel Riley Butler, wasn't just any educator - he shaped Huntsville's educational landscape from 1890 to 1930. Today, Butler Green elegantly bridges the old architectural elements with newer developments in the area.

Stroll through Butler Green and you'll discover a spacious recreational lawn stretching between Yellowhammer Brewery and Straight to Ale Brewery - two local favorites that anchor Campus No. 805. The City of Huntsville created this clean, open space as a thoughtful nod to the athletic fields that generations of students once used.

A Preservation Success Story

In 2016, the 13-acre Campus No. 805 project, including Butler Green, received special recognition from Huntsville's Historic Preservation Consultant. It shows how communities can breathe new life into important spaces while honoring their original purpose and history.
