Trail System Overview
Burritt on the Mountain features over four miles of nature trails, winding through the woods and around Round Top Mountain. These trails offer visitors a chance to explore the natural beauty of the area while connecting to the larger network of trails in Monte Sano State Park and the Land Trust of North Alabama.
Trail Varieties
The trails at Burritt provide varying levels of difficulty, making them suitable for different hiking abilities. One of the notable paths is the Rock Bluff Trail, which encircles Round Top Mountain and offers scenic views of the surrounding landscape.
From this main trail, hikers can branch off onto discovery trails such as the Big Cove Turnpike Trail or the Trough Springs Trail.
Natural and Historical Features
As visitors traverse the trails, they may encounter historical features such as remnants of old coal mines and interesting limestone rock formations. The area is also recognized as part of the Huntsville/Madison County Birding Trail, offering opportunities for birdwatching enthusiasts.
