About the Location
Local Space
Located at the corner of 11th Avenue and Fairbanks Street in downtown Anchorage, Alaska, Fairbanks Park is a small green space in the Fairview community. While it may not be massive in size, this park offers a nice bit of greenery amidst the city surroundings.
A Park with History
Born in 1978, Fairbanks Park has grown up alongside the neighborhood it serves. It got a nice refresh in 1996 thanks to Community Development Block Grant funding, and then in 2013, the park received another makeover with upgraded play equipment. The designers thoughtfully included separate play areas - one retrofitted for the 5-12 crowd and brand new equipment for the little ones ages 3-5.
What You'll Find
The heart of Fairbanks Park is its playground area where kiddos of different ages can burn off energy while parents catch a moment's respite. Though compact, the park provides some greenery within Anchorage's urban landscape - a convenient spot when you need a quick outdoor break.
Community Love
In 2006, Fairview residents rallied together to boost safety measures in the park - a testament to how much this space means to the neighborhood. This involvement highlights the park's importance to the neighborhood.
Whether you want to let the kids play, enjoy a quiet moment on a bench, or simply walk through, this modest neighborhood park remains a nice local green space.
