Park History
Pamela Joy Lowry Memorial Park is a neighborhood park located in Anchorage, Alaska. The park was acquired in 1989 and named in memory of Pamela Joy Lowry. It is situated within a residential area, providing a local recreational space for the community.
Assessment and Improvement Plans
In 2011, the park received a D grade on its Report Card, indicating a need for improvements. Following this assessment, plans were made to upgrade various aspects of the park. The Anchorage Park Foundation and Parks & Recreation Department aimed to complete these improvements with the help of community volunteers and input from a neighborhood park committee.
Planned Renovations
The improvement plans included replacing the playground equipment, which was reaching the end of its useful life, and installing 100% accessible surfacing to meet safety standards. Additionally, the park's kiosk, signs, and seating were identified as needing repair and enhancement.
The outdoor classroom area was also slated for updates. As part of the renovation efforts, neighborhood volunteers were expected to participate in trimming trees, thinning out brush, and weeding the green spaces.
Project Funding
The estimated project cost for these improvements was $250,000, with $210,000 requested from the Alaska State Legislature and $40,000 planned to be contributed by the Rasmuson Foundation through the Anchorage Park Foundation.
