Scenic Natural Setting
Goose Lake Park is a popular recreational area located in central Anchorage, Alaska near the University of Alaska Anchorage campus. The park centers around Goose Lake, a small kettle lake formed by glacial activity.
The lake itself covers approximately 0.3 miles in length and sits at an elevation of 141 feet. The park offers scenic views of the Chugach Mountains and provides a peaceful natural setting within the urban environment of Anchorage.
Seasonal Activities
In the summer months, Goose Lake is a favorite swimming spot for locals, featuring one of Anchorage's few public beaches. During winter, the frozen lake surface becomes a natural ice skating rink.
Surrounding the lake is a 3-mile paved trail that is popular for walking, jogging and biking in warmer weather. In winter, the trail is used for cross-country skiing.
Wildlife Viewing
The forested areas around the lake provide habitat for various bird species, including the lake's namesake Canada geese. Visitors may also spot Pacific loons nesting at the far end of the lake from mid-May to mid-September.
Its location near the university makes it a popular spot for students and faculty to relax or exercise between classes.
