About the Location
Natural Haven
Positioned in south Anchorage, Moen Park is a hidden space that's been quietly existing since 1993. This relatively undeveloped neighborhood park spans 10.53 acres of beautiful forested hillside, offering a peaceful retreat from city life.
From the higher points of the park, you can enjoy nice views of the Golden View area and glimpses of the inlet. One of our favorite seasonal perks? Wild raspberries grow across the park - nature's little snack while you're out exploring!
What You'll Find There
The park has a modest 5-car parking lot, so it's best to arrive early if you're visiting on a nice day. Kids will love the modern playground that's specifically designed for the 2-5 age group. It's ADA accessible and looks relatively new and well-maintained - a definite plus for parents concerned about safety.
There's a picnic table right next to the playground where you can enjoy lunch while keeping an eye on the little ones. Just be aware that there's no shelter, and the area can get pretty windy at times. Pack a jacket just in case!
Outdoor Adventures
The trails across the park offer a nice opportunity to stretch your legs and connect with nature. You might even get lucky and spot horses passing through - always a hit with kids and adults alike. For the more adventurous types, there's a fun tree swing at the far edge of the park that adds a touch of old-school charm to your visit.
The open spaces make this a great spot for dogs to explore, but do keep them on leash or under close watch since the park borders Golden View Drive, which can be busy with traffic.
Community Spirit
The park is accessible for children with special needs, with features that allow them to play independently. Its proximity to Goldenview Middle School also makes it a natural hangout for local students.
One of the park's best features is actually what it doesn't have - crowds. It tends to be quieter than other parks in Anchorage, making it perfect if you're looking for some peaceful outdoor time without the hustle and bustle.
Looking Ahead
Recent years have seen efforts to enhance the park's amenities and safety features. These improvements are aimed at making this little woodland retreat even more accessible and enjoyable for everyone in the community, from families with young children to adults looking for a tranquil spot to unwind.
