Nichols Park

Park Overview

Tucked away at 700 N. Higley Road in Gilbert, Arizona, Nichols Park was once a 32-acre green oasis that provided a welcome escape from the desert heat. Located just west of Higley Road on the north side of Tremaine Road, this spacious recreational area was known for its inviting landscape, with sprawling grass fields and magnificent shade trees offering respite on hot Arizona days.

Amenities and Features

With 6 acres of versatile open space, Nichols Park gave visitors plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy whatever outdoor activity suited their mood. During winter months, the park transformed into cricket central as the home grounds for the Arizona Cricket Club. Cricket enthusiasts considered it the best cricket grounds in Arizona and one of the top facilities in the entire United States - quite a claim to fame for this Gilbert park!

Connectivity

One of the coolest aspects of Nichols Park was how it didn't exist in isolation. As part of the broader Water Ranch complex, the park connected seamlessly to the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch trail system via the Western Powerline Trail running along its southern edge. This meant you could start your outdoor adventure at Nichols and easily extend your exploration beyond its boundaries.

Current Status

Unfortunately, Nichols Park has closed to make way for the expansion of the North Water Treatment Plant (NWTP) Facility. This project, formally titled WA1589: North Water Treatment Plant (NWTP) Facility Upgrades and Reconstruction, has dramatically changed the landscape. Note that many of the park's popular features, including those characteristic trees and grassy areas, have been removed as part of this development. If you're planning a visit to the area, you'll need to explore other nearby parks instead.
