About Zanjero Park in Gilbert
Zanjero Park is a 20-acre outdoor space located on the east side of Lindsay Road, just south of the Loop 202 freeway in Gilbert, Arizona. The park, which opened on April 19, 2008, is a converted water detention basin that has been transformed into a recreational area for the community.
The primary feature of Zanjero Park is its one-mile trail system, which includes both equestrian and multi-use paths. The equestrian trail is equipped with hitching posts and water troughs, making it a popular destination for horseback riders. The multi-use trail connects to the larger San Tan Trail system, providing extended recreational opportunities for visitors.
One of the unique aspects of Zanjero Park is its Burrowing Owl Habitat. The park has designated areas where these small, ground-dwelling owls can nest and live, offering visitors a chance to observe these interesting birds in their natural environment.
The park's landscape is characteristic of the Arizona desert, featuring native plants and open spaces. While much of the park retains its natural desert appearance, there are also developed areas for picnicking and relaxation. The park provides a serene environment for visitors to enjoy nature, take a walk, or go for a bike ride, all while being conveniently located near urban amenities.
Zanjero Park serves multiple purposes for the community. In addition to its recreational uses, it continues to function as a water retention basin, playing a role in the area's water management system. This dual-purpose design exemplifies how urban planning can combine practical infrastructure needs with community recreational spaces.
