About the Location
Bike Park Overview
Positioned in Mesa, Desert Trails Bike Park spans 35 acres with trails and features for riders of all levels. Since opening its gates in November 2014, this spot has been bringing together bike enthusiasts against a stunning desert backdrop that just can't be beat.
The park has a variety of trails, including a 3/4-mile perimeter loop that's ideal for hiking and non-motorized biking. This scenic trail offers some breathtaking views of Phoenix valley's mountain ranges - ideal whether you're walking, jogging, or bringing your leashed four-legged friend along for the adventure.
Trail System
For those seeking something more adventurous, there are three progressive flow trails designed for downhill riding. There's something for everyone: the Beginner Level (Green Runaway Train Trail) for those just finding their wheels, the Intermediate Level (Blue Squirrel Catcher Trail) for riders ready to push themselves a bit, and the Expert Level (Black Double Trouble Trail) for those seeking serious challenges.
The jump lines vary in difficulty, with the advanced sections featuring legitimate gap jumps for more experienced riders. What's really nice is how well-maintained and smooth the trails are - making for great rides no matter where you fall on the skill spectrum.
Skills Areas
At the heart of the park, you can find two pump tracks and a kids' skills track that progressively help develop BMX-style riding skills. The smaller pump track is particularly sweet for beginners and little ones - even those still mastering balance bikes can have a blast here.
These skills areas are great places where riders can practice techniques and build confidence before venturing onto more challenging terrain. It's like having a cycling classroom in the desert.
Amenities
Need a break? The park offers several covered ramadas with picnic tables where you can rest, refuel, or just watch others tackle the courses. Clean restrooms with soap and water are available (always a plus!), along with a water bottle refill station that's especially appreciated on those warm Arizona days.
You'll also find benches strategically placed along the trails - perfect spots to catch your breath while taking in the desert landscape or those spectacular Arizona sunsets that paint the sky.
Community Features
The pump track was built by volunteers from the Gravity Riders Organization of Arizona (GROAZ), highlighting the local biking community's involvement.
The park has become a popular spot for riders of all ages. The thoughtful layout means families can enjoy the park together, with areas for every skill level positioned close enough to keep everyone connected.
Park Information
Desert Trails Bike Park welcomes visitors daily from 5AM to 10PM, but it does close during rain or when trails are muddy to protect those carefully crafted paths.
The park's layout allows you to develop your riding skills while enjoying Arizona's natural beauty. Don't forget to bring plenty of water, especially during those hot desert days, and helmets are recommended for all riders - your brain will thank you!
