About the Location
A Green Oasis in Peoria
Found in Peoria, Arizona, Pioneer Community Park is one of those spacious retreats where the whole community comes together. It's the kind of place where you can easily spend an entire day - there are many different activities and areas to explore.
Lakeside Serenity
At the heart of the park sits a 5-acre urban lake that instantly draws you in. If you're into fishing, you're in luck - the lake is stocked with trout, catfish, bass, sunfish, and white amur as part of the Arizona Community Fishing Program. Just remember to bring your fishing license if you're an adult!
The paved paths circling the lake make for a wonderful morning walk or evening stroll. On any given day, you might spot local ducks gliding across the water, adding to the park's tranquil atmosphere.
Kid-Friendly Play Zones
The playground features three distinct play structures designed for different age groups. There's a smaller setup for the little ones, a medium structure for the in-betweeners, and a towering play structure that older kids can't resist.
The shade covering over the playground is a welcome feature - an absolute must in the Arizona heat. The rubber and cement surfaces add an extra layer of safety, and the variety of swings, including accessible swings for children with disabilities, ensures that no child is left out of the fun.
Cool Off at the Splash Pad
When temperatures climb, the splash pad becomes the place to be. Open from April 15 to October 15 (10 AM to 8 PM), it's a refreshing escape from the desert heat.
Kids love the water features here - from the large waterwheel that dumps water unexpectedly to the smaller buckets, spouts, and water guns that create a watery playground. The best part? It's right next to the regular playground, so children can easily bounce between both areas.
Fields for Sports Enthusiasts
Sports fans will find six lighted ball fields for baseball and softball games that are well-maintained - groomed and chalked between games. There are also four lighted multipurpose fields with real grass that are great for soccer and other field sports. Whether you're playing in a league or just tossing a ball around with friends, there's plenty of space to get active.
Beyond a Park
Dog parents will appreciate the thoughtfully designed off-leash dog park with separate areas for dogs of different sizes. It's a safe space where your furry friends can run free and make some new buddies.
Planning a gathering? The park offers several reservable ramadas equipped with built-in grills - ideal for family picnics, birthday celebrations, or casual get-togethers. Just be aware that these covered spots are in high demand, especially on weekends, so booking ahead is wise.
Accessibility is clearly a priority here, with paved walking paths around the grounds. Clean restrooms are conveniently located near the playground and splash pad, complete with changing stations for families with babies and toddlers.
Community Connection
Pioneer Community Park hosts various events throughout the year, including food truck gatherings, occasional free lunch programs for children, car shows, and sports tournaments. These activities complement the everyday recreational use of the park.
