About the Location
Park Overview
Nestled in Ward 3 of Tucson, Francisco Elias Esquer Park stretches across 6.3 acres of green space. It's one of the few public parks within the Thrive in the 05 area, making it something of a serene area for locals.
With its greenery and grounds, the park offers a quiet escape from the urban hustle. There's something refreshingly peaceful about this space that makes it excellent for taking a breather and cooling down from Arizona's famous heat.
Amenities
If you're in the mood for a leisurely walk, spreading out a picnic blanket, or just watching the clouds drift by, you'll find space to do so here. Kids will love the large playground area with its newer equipment and grassy surroundings. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy the fishing pier with lake access - a surprising feature that adds a unique dimension to this neighborhood park.
Need some shade from that desert sun? The park's several ramadas provide shaded tables for outdoor meals. Mature trees dot the landscape, creating natural umbrellas throughout the grounds.
Community Improvements
Francisco Elias Esquer Park hasn't been forgotten in Tucson's development plans. Back in November 2018, city voters approved Proposition 407, a $225 million bond package for capital improvements that included this very park.
The community has been actively involved in shaping the park's future through design workshops, suggesting additions like dog walking areas, native plant landscaping, more places to sit, and clever stormwater harvesting features. While the park certainly has its charm now, a little more consistent maintenance would really help it shine to its full potential.
Visitor Information
You might miss this little neighborhood treasure if you're not looking for it, tucked away as it is in the area. It's most welcoming to families during daylight hours, while evenings tend to be quieter.
Note that trash collection and general upkeep can be hit-or-miss, so you might want to bring along some supplies to tidy up your picnic spot if needed.
