The Lake and Its History

Situated in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Lake Fayetteville Park spans a generous 458 acres of natural beauty. At its heart lies a 194-acre lake, created back in 1948 when the community needed a reliable drinking water source.

Interestingly, the lake's purpose shifted in 1959 when the Beaver Water District took over the water supply duties. Since then, Lake Fayetteville has primarily served recreational purposes.

Trails and Outdoor Activities

For those wanting to explore nature on foot, there are several trail options. A 5.5-mile nature trail winds its way around the lake on unpaved terrain - ideal for those moments when you want to disconnect and maybe spot some deer or other wildlife going about their day.

Prefer something a bit more manicured? The 4.3-mile paved multi-use trail offers a smooth journey around the lake's perimeter. It's wide enough for everyone - joggers, cyclists, families with strollers - and offers nice lake views along the way.

Park Components

The park is divided into distinct areas including Veterans Memorial Park, a boat dock and marina, the Lake Fayetteville Softball Complex, and North Shore Park.

On the eastern shore, you'll come across the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks, adding a touch of cultivated beauty to the natural landscape. Kids won't feel left out either, with multiple playgrounds scattered throughout the park suitable for different ages.

Water Recreation

The lake is good for fishing, with populations of largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish, and white bass. You can cast your line from the shoreline, one of the accessible fishing piers, or from a boat - just remember that all watercraft must follow the no-wake policy.

Don't own a boat? No problem. The marina rents out kayaks, canoes, and pontoon boats for your paddling pleasure. They also offer bicycle rentals for trail exploration. A small café at the marina provides refreshments and snacks.

Recreation Amenities

Activities extend beyond the water. Disc golf fans can test their skills on the park's 18-hole disc golf course that meanders through some particularly scenic spots. The course accommodates both experienced players and beginners, set against a pleasant natural backdrop.

When it's time to refuel, numerous picnic areas with tables and grills await, many offering welcome shade and lovely views. Planning something bigger? Several pavilions around the park provide perfect spots for family reunions or casual get-togethers.

Permits and Regulations

Just a heads up - you'll need fishing and boating permits to enjoy Lake Fayetteville fully. These can be purchased for a small fee at the Boat House/Lake Office before you hit the water.

Clean, accessible restrooms are conveniently located across the park, including at the marina and Veterans Park.

The park welcomes visitors from 6AM to 6PM seven days a week, with a brief annual closure from December 24 to January 14.
