George Florence Park is a small neighborhood park in Berkeley, California. Occupying approximately 0.51 acres (22,220 square feet), this mini-park provides a tranquil setting for local residents and visitors alike.

Play Areas

The park boasts two distinct play areas catering to different age groups: a tot lot designed for children aged 2-5 years and a separate playground for older children aged 5-12.

One of the park's notable features is its fully enclosed tot lot, which provides a safe environment for young children to play. This area includes a plastic slide, interactive play panels, bucket-style swings, a covered structure for imaginative play, and a modern climbing structure.

There's also a sandbox area, though parents are advised to check it before use.

Features for Older Children

For older children, the park offers a taller slide and a more advanced climbing structure. This area, however, is not fenced and is situated closer to the street.

Open Space

In addition to the play structures, George Florence Park features a large, flat grassy area. This open space is ideal for various activities such as running, setting up picnic blankets, or simply relaxing.

Park History

The park's history dates back to 1974 when the land was purchased using funds from Measure Y, a voter-approved bond measure for park development.

It was officially dedicated on April 14, 1979, and has since undergone several renovations, including one in the early 1990s.
