Terraced Hillside Design
Glendale La Loma Park is a 5.61-acre park located on a terraced hillside in the Berkeley Hills of Berkeley, California. The park offers stunning views of the surrounding area, including glimpses of the Golden Gate Bridge on clear days.
The park was originally developed in the 1960s, with additional parcels of land acquired and developed through the late 1960s. In 1974, the park received the National Merit Design Award from the Professional Awards Program of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Three Distinct Levels
The park is divided into three distinct levels, each offering different recreational opportunities. The top level features a fenced tot lot with a small play structure, bucket swings, and a climbing tunnel shaped like a train.
This area also includes a hillside climbing wall and a shaded picnic table.
Playground Facilities
The middle level contains a larger playground area for older children. This section includes an old-school wooden play structure with features such as monkey bars, a zip line, a long metal slide, a jumpy bridge, and a rolling balance log.
There are also regular swings and a sand area for digging and playing.
Sports Amenities
The bottom level of the park houses a baseball field and a half-court basketball court. This area also includes the park's only restroom facilities.
Natural Setting
The park's natural setting, with its large redwood and eucalyptus trees, provides a lovely backdrop for recreational activities and contributes to the overall tranquil atmosphere.
