Originally called the Harmon Street Neighborhood Park, it was formally renamed after a youth who collapsed and later died while playing in a Berkeley High School basketball game.

The park's history dates back to the early 1900s when the City of Berkeley purchased the initial parcel of land. In 1973, additional parcels were acquired using funds from Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Capital Improvement Program (CIP).

Dedication and Purpose

The park and its clubhouse were officially dedicated at an open house held on May 27, 1976.
