About the Location
A Nearby Park
Tucked between Interstate 805 and a residential area of Chula Vista lies Greg Rogers Park, a sprawling 42-acre green space that represents the heart and soul of what locals often call South Chula Vista. This expansive community park has been a gathering place for neighbors for generations, providing green space amid the suburban landscape.
The park honors the legacy of Greg Rogers, one of Chula Vista's original City Council members and a true pioneer of the area. Beyond his political contributions, Rogers helped establish the community's first bank and was deeply involved in shaping the city we see today.
Get Your Game On
For those wanting to stay active, Greg Rogers Park offers several options. The park features several sports fields, ball fields, and basketball courts where local athletes of all ages come to play and practice.
In 2022, the park added a nine-hole disc golf course that's become quite popular with frisbee enthusiasts. The course features both A and B tee boxes, making it accessible for everyone from first-timers to seasoned players. You can download the free UDisc app to help navigate the course, find the tee pads and baskets, and keep track of your score as you play.
Family Fun and Relaxation
Kids will love the playground equipment scattered around the park, while parents can keep an eye on them from nearby picnic tables. The open green spaces are ideal for impromptu games of catch, flying kites, or simply spreading out a blanket for an afternoon of cloud-watching.
Winding paved walkways make for pleasant strolls, whether you're taking the dog out or getting in your daily steps. The park's grilling areas and picnic spots are available for family gatherings and outdoor meals.
Note that while restroom facilities are available, they're situated a bit far from the playground - something to keep in mind if you're visiting with small children.
Beyond a Park
Greg Rogers Park is woven into the fabric of community life here. It sits right next to Greg Rogers Elementary School, creating a seamless connection between learning and play.
Over the years, this green space has hosted countless community moments - from Sunday church picnics to intimate celebrations like vow renewals. It's not only a park; it's where memories are made and community bonds are strengthened.
Good to Know
The park is open 24 hours daily, but you'll want to bring a flashlight if visiting after dark as lighting is limited. Evening visitors are rewarded with stunning views of the city lights twinkling in the distance.
While the disc golf course adds a fun dimension to the park, it does take up considerable space. If you're not there to play disc golf, you might enjoy the park more during off-peak hours when you're less likely to need to dodge flying discs.
Dog lovers will appreciate that the park is dog-friendly, with plenty of space for four-legged friends to stretch their legs - just remember to bring bags for cleanup!
