About Harborside Park
Fresh Start for a Nearby Park
Nestled at 670 Oxford Street in Chula Vista, Harborside Park has been given a new lease on life. This 7.1-acre green space reopened in December 2023 after a much-needed makeover, once again becoming a go-to spot for Southwest Chula Vista residents looking to enjoy some outdoor time.
The renovations have breathed fresh air into this community space. You'll come across a newly resodded multi-purpose field that's great for casual games, a smoothly resurfaced basketball court ready for pickup games, and refurbished bathrooms that actually feel pleasant to use (a rarity in public parks, let's be honest).
Safety First
One of the most significant improvements is the addition of a permanent park ranger station. After being closed since August 2022 due to safety concerns, the park now features rangers on duty whenever the gates are open. It's a reassuring presence that helps everyone feel more comfortable.
The entire park is enclosed by fencing with controlled access points, keeping the space clean and secure. Rangers monitor who comes and goes, creating a protected environment where families can relax and kids can play freely.
Play Your Heart Out
Soccer fans will appreciate the new mini-pitch - a compact soccer field funded by hometown hero and professional soccer player Paul Arriola. It's a great size for quick games or practicing your skills without needing a full team.
Beyond soccer, the park offers a well-maintained basketball court where local ballers gather for games. There are plenty of open grassy areas for frisbee, catch, or just lounging with a good book. Skateboarding enthusiasts can show off their tricks at the skate park, while the picnic areas provide ideal spots for family meals or catching up with friends.
During the week, kids can join free after-school activities through the Outdoor Rec Club program - a great option for parents looking for structured recreation time.
Good to Know
The restroom facilities are clean and were updated during the recent renovations - no small consideration when you're planning to spend a few hours at the park.
One heads-up: shade is somewhat limited across the park, with trees sparsely placed in certain areas. You might want to bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water if you're visiting on a sunny Southern California day.
