A Touch of Costa Mesa History

Harper Park is named after Gregory Harper, who established the town of Harper back in 1891, which would eventually evolve into what we now know as Costa Mesa.

This cozy 1-acre green space might be small, but it packs in plenty of charm for locals looking for a quick outdoor escape. The playground area is a hit with the little ones, while the grassy fields offer an excellent spot to toss a frisbee, kick a soccer ball around, or simply sprawl out with a good book.

Beyond the Boundaries

Right next door, you'll find additional fields belonging to the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. While students have dibs during school hours, these spaces open up to the public after 4 pm on weekdays and throughout weekends. Just a heads up - the school facilities have that well-loved (aka slightly dated) look, complete with chain-link fencing that's seen better days.

In a neighborhood where concrete often dominates, Harper Park offers a welcome patch of green. Its central location makes it an easy stop for nearby residents, and you'll typically find families with young children making memories here on sunny afternoons.

Note that your four-legged friends will need to sit this one out - dogs aren't allowed in Harper Park.
