Tanager Park
About Tanager Park
Recreational Facilities
Spread across 7.4 acres in a cozy residential area, Tanager Park offers a refreshing green escape for Costa Mesa locals looking to unwind or get active. This neighborhood park offers a nice balance of nature and recreation space.
The expansive open grassy field is the heart of the park - with space to toss a frisbee, walk your four-legged friend (keeping them leashed, of course), or simply spread out a blanket and enjoy the day.
Recent Upgrades
Following a 2022 makeover, Tanager Park now features Costa Mesa's first outdoor pickleball courts, converted from a former basketball court. These courts are popular with paddle enthusiasts - if you're planning to play during peak hours, you might notice the informal paddle line system players use to take turns.
The playground got a fresh look during these renovations too. The new multi-functional equipment sits on a thoughtfully designed mix of sand and rubberized safety surfacing, making playtime both fun and safer for the little ones.
Sports Amenities
Regardless of whether you're a casual player or dedicated athlete, there's something here for you. Beyond the popular pickleball courts, you'll discover basketball courts and volleyball courts with both hard surface and sand options - and yes, the nets are actually up and ready to use!
The park's fitness equipment and calisthenics station are particular standouts. Many locals come specifically for what some affectionately call the "adult jungle gym" - a great spot to get in some strength training without being cooped up in a traditional gym.
Playground Area
Kids have their own space to explore with a modern playground featuring swings and a jungle gym with multiple slides. The structure offers plenty of opportunities for climbing, sliding, and imaginative play.
One thing to note: the playground sits relatively close to the sports courts without any barriers between them. You might want to keep a closer eye on very young children if the courts are busy with activity.
Community Space
Tanager Park has naturally evolved into a neighborhood gathering spot, with picnic tables available when you want to enjoy lunch outdoors or host a small get-together. The grounds are well-maintained and the park has earned a reputation as a safe community space.
Just a heads up - there are no public restrooms available here, and remember that all dogs need to stay on leash (those are the rules posted within the park).
