About the Location
Lakeside Oasis
Found in Elk Grove, California, Bartholomew Park is a 10-acre green space that's been part of the community since 1998. Part of the West Laguna (Zone 4) area, this park stands out with its gorgeous lake views and expansive green spaces that invite you to just breathe a little deeper.
What makes this spot special? For starters, there are two lakes connected by a cascading waterfall that honestly makes for a pretty perfect background noise as you relax on the grass. The sound of water and sight of greenery create a relaxing atmosphere.
Get Moving or Just Chill
If sitting still isn't your thing, the park's multipurpose field is waiting for your soccer game or whatever sport strikes your fancy. The wide open grassy areas are excellent for flying kites on breezy days, testing out that drone you got for Christmas, or just tossing a frisbee around with friends.
Want to get those steps in? The winding paths that circle the lakes offer a scenic route for your daily walk or jog. These promenade paths let you loop around the water while taking in different angles of the park's natural beauty.
When hunger strikes, head to one of the shaded picnic areas scattered across the grounds. The covered pavilion near the north end is particularly nice for larger gatherings - we've seen everything from birthday parties to family reunions happening under its roof.
Fun for All Ages
Kids will make a beeline for the large playground with equipment that suits both toddlers and older children. Recent upgrades have given the play area a more natural look and made it more inclusive, which is always a win.
Adults haven't been forgotten either - check out the unique exercise equipment if you're looking to sneak in a workout between pushing swings. And for those who prefer mental exercise, find a spot at one of the tables with built-in chess and checkers boards for a strategic showdown.
Natural Beauty Spots
The scenic lake views are definitely the star of the show here. Two graceful foot bridges arch over the water, creating those perfect Instagram moments or quiet spots to pause and reflect.
Dotted across the park, shade trees offer respite on hot California days, while the rose garden at the north end adds a touch of color and fragrance. Don't miss the vine-covered pergola - it's like something out of a storybook.
The lakes are home to some friendly ducks that will happily waddle over if they think you might have corn to share. If fishing is your thing, you can try your luck catching bass, carp, and bluegill, but we should mention that patience is definitely required - the fish here can be a bit crafty.
When to Visit
If you want to see Bartholomew Park at its most magical, come during golden hour when the setting sun paints everything in warm, golden light and reflects off the water. The light at this time creates nice photo opportunities that attract photographers on weekends.
Whether you're looking for active recreation or just a peaceful place to unwind, Bartholomew Park combines open spaces for activities with quieter areas for relaxation.
