About the Location
Play & Recreation
Fernandez Park is a pleasant green space with various recreational options. The layout blends open grassy areas ideal for impromptu frisbee games or picnic blankets with more defined recreational spaces.
Kids will love the recently renovated playground designed primarily for ages 5-12. If you've got younger adventurers, they can still join the fun with your supervision.
Hoop dreams come alive on the park's basketball courts where you can shoot around solo or jump into a pickup game with locals.
Gathering Spots
Planning a small get-together? The park offers modest barbecue areas and picnic shelters for your outdoor feasting needs. The main sheltered area houses about four picnic tables and one grill - well-suited for intimate birthday celebrations or family gatherings.
You can find plenty of benches dotting the walking paths across the park. These make great spots to catch your breath or lose yourself in a good book, but most don't have tables or grills nearby.
Nature & Walking Paths
One of the park's best features is its scenic walking trails that circle the grounds. No matter if you're getting your steps in, training for a 5K, or just enjoying a leisurely stroll, these loops are a neighborhood favorite for daily exercise.
Even on scorching California days, you'll discover relief under the park's canopy of mature trees, including magnificent magnolias and towering eucalyptus. The grounds have lush green grass that's well-maintained, making it a nice spot for relaxation.
Practical Info & History
The park provides male and female restrooms that are regularly maintained, but cleanliness can sometimes be hit or miss. Parking is plentiful around the perimeter, so you shouldn't have trouble finding a spot.
Four-legged friends are welcome at this dog-friendly space. Just remember to keep your pup leashed and clean up any messes, especially around the children's areas.
There's something special about knowing the ground beneath your feet has a story. This peaceful neighborhood haven exists thanks to Benjamin Fernandez, who donated this land as his final wish. What was once a ranch home surrounded by eucalyptus trees is now a neighborhood park in east Fontana.
