About the Location
Historical Significance
Amerige Park sits on the site of the former Fullerton High School and was named after the city founders, George and Edward Amerige. Covering an area of 7.89 acres, the park has been a significant part of Fullerton's history since its opening in 1917.
Rich Baseball Heritage
The park has a distinguished baseball legacy, having served as the spring training grounds for several Pacific Coast League teams during the 1930s and 1940s. Notable teams that used the field include the Hollywood Stars (1935-36), Seattle Rainiers (1937-40), Sacramento Solons (1941-42; 1944), and the Los Angeles Angels (1946-55).
Hall of Fame players such as Joe DiMaggio, Walter Johnson, and Satchel Paige are known to have played on the field.
Current Facilities
Today, Amerige Park continues to be a hub for baseball activities. It is home to the Fullerton's Pony Baseball league and serves as the venue for the Hope International University Royals, an NAIA college baseball team.
The park's main baseball facility, known as Duane Winters Field, features bleacher seating that can accommodate 250 spectators.
Community Center
In addition to its baseball facilities, Amerige Park also houses the Fullerton Community Center, providing a space for various community activities and events.
