About Chapman Park in Fullerton
Chapman Park is a 5.39-acre urban green space located in Fullerton, California. Established in 1955, the park was named after Charles C. Chapman, who served as Fullerton's first mayor in 1904. The park sits on what was once part of the expansive Chapman Ranch, a property that played a significant role in the development of the Valencia orange industry.
Today, Chapman Park offers a variety of recreational facilities for visitors of all ages. The park features a playground with a climbing wall, providing an exciting challenge for children. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the park's baseball/softball field, basketball court, and soccer field. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, the park offers picnic areas with tables and a covered shelter, perfect for family gatherings or community events.
Chapman Park is also home to an activity building, which hosts the city's summer youth recreation program. The mature shade trees throughout the park create a pleasant environment for visitors, offering respite from the sun during warmer months. Restroom facilities are available on-site for visitor convenience.
As a testament to its historical significance, a bronze plaque located at the northeast corner of the park commemorates the Chapman house and ranch, as well as the historic first shipment of Valencia oranges to the East Coast. This marker serves as a reminder of the park's connection to Fullerton's agricultural heritage.
