El Rancho Verde Park
About El Rancho Verde Park
Overview
Situated in a cozy single-family residential neighborhood at 175 Fairway Street, El Rancho Verde Park covers about 10.5 acres of green space. It's a breath of fresh air for Hayward locals looking for a place to play, unwind, or just enjoy some outdoor time close to home.
Sports Facilities
Sports enthusiasts, this one's for you! The park centers around a cluster of baseball fields that orbit a central plaza area. You'll find one major baseball field for serious players, one minor baseball field for the up-and-comers, and a t-ball field where the littlest sluggers can practice their swing.
Amenities
Beyond baseball, El Rancho Verde doesn't forget the little ones. The park features a children's play area that draws families from around the neighborhood. It's a simple but welcome addition that helps make this not simply a sports complex.
Master Planning & Expansion
In 2019, the park's future got a fresh look when the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD) kicked off a master planning process. They didn't make these decisions in a vacuum - community meetings brought residents into the conversation, leading to a community-selected plan in August 2019.
By April 2020, the HARD Board gave the official thumbs-up to the master plan, setting the stage for what was to come.
Recent Developments
The park has been growing! HARD recently purchased an additional 2.48 acres from the New Haven Unified School District, including a ball diamond and field that once belonged to the schools. This thoughtful expansion adds even more space for play and recreation.
With a substantial project budget of $3,000,000, improvements at El Rancho Verde Park continue to unfold. The goal remains straightforward: enhance recreational opportunities for the community while staying true to the park's sports-centered identity. The work goes on, with each improvement making this neighborhood haven a bit more special for Hayward residents.
