Triangle Park
About Triangle Park
A Century of Community Space
Found in the heart of Huntington Beach, Triangle Park is a charming 1.11-acre green space with roots reaching back to 1912 - just three years after the city itself was incorporated. As you might guess from the name (which became official in 2011), this historic park takes the shape of a triangle.
From Recreation to Relaxation
This little park has worn many hats throughout its lifetime. In its early days, locals would gather here for baseball games, croquet matches, tennis rallies, and even horseshoes.
During the 1920s oil boom, the park briefly transformed into a tent city for oil workers - a far cry from its peaceful atmosphere today.
Between 1924 and 1925, the park underwent a significant makeover, including the planting of Canary Island palm trees that still stand tall today. These majestic palms have become one of the park's defining features, offering welcome shade on sunny California days.
Simple Pleasures
Unlike parks packed with playground equipment and sports facilities, Triangle Park embraces minimalism with its open grassy area that provides a tranquil escape from the bustle of beach life just blocks away.
You'll find it perfectly positioned near the Huntington Beach Pier and downtown attractions, making it an ideal spot to catch your breath while exploring the city. From time to time, the park is a community gathering space, hosting local events and even functioning as a voting location.
Historic Heritage
Right next door stands the Huntington Beach Public Library's Main Street Branch - the oldest library in town. This pairing of park and library creates a little oasis of calm and culture in the downtown area.
The park's historical significance received official recognition in 2013 when both Triangle Park and its library neighbor earned spots on the National Register of Historic Places.
Today, this modest green space continues its century-long history as a community space. If you're a local walking your dog, a visitor seeking a quiet moment, or simply looking for a patch of grass to enjoy a quick picnic, Triangle Park offers a piece of Huntington Beach history with room to breathe.
