About Jackson Park
A Bit of History
Jackson Park has quite the backstory. It started its journey as land owned by a private water company way back in 1903, before becoming city property when the Water Department formed in 1911. Though the park wasn't officially developed until much later - the green light came on August 16, 1966, and the work wrapped up in 1968.
In a change of hands, the park transferred from the Water Department to the Parks, Recreation and Marine department in May 2000. If you stroll along the south edge, you'll come across a storm drain channel that once flowed as Jackson Creek - a little reminder of the land's natural history.
What You'll Find There
Nestled just east of Orange Avenue in Long Beach, Jackson Park is a cozy 3.1-acre green space. Though small in size, it packs in plenty of charm with its peaceful atmosphere, pretty landscaping, and family-friendly facilities. It's one of those secluded areas that doesn't try to overwhelm you - just offers a nice breather from city life.

Play Areas and Upgrades
The playground got a major facelift in 1996, thanks to funding from the Los Angeles County Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond Act of 1992. And the improvements didn't stop there - more recent upgrades have made the play areas even better for the little ones (and let's be honest, for parents who want a moment's peace while the kids burn off energy).
What Makes It Special
What Jackson Park lacks in size, it makes up for in community spirit. It's a gathering place that offers simple recreational opportunities and green spaces without any fuss. The compact, well-kept grounds make it meant for families seeking a quiet afternoon out or children looking for a safe place to play. Nothing fancy - just a solid neighborhood park doing what neighborhood parks do best.
