History and Development

Silverado Park is an 11.8-acre city-operated recreational area located in the West-Side of Long Beach, California. Established in the 1930s under the Works Progress Administration, this park has been a longstanding fixture in the community, offering a variety of facilities and programs for residents of all ages.

The park features a rich history, with its land originally purchased from the Moulton Estate in February 1925. In its early days, an old converted barn served as the park's first clubhouse. The current clubhouse, completed in 1938, contains an auditorium with a stage, basement playroom, kitchen, card room, and restrooms.

Facilities and Renovations

Over the years, Silverado Park has undergone several renovations and additions to enhance its offerings. In 1961, a swimming pool was added, which was later enclosed around 1968 and renovated in 2007.

The gymnasium, added in 1980, received a new wooden floor in 2004. Other improvements include the renovation of sports field lighting, tennis and basketball court upgrades, and playground enhancements.

Programs and Activities

Silverado Park provides a wide range of recreational programs and activities. These include senior programs such as floral arrangement classes and exercise sessions, after-school programs for children and teens, and various youth sports leagues.

The park also offers summer day camps, teen summer programs, and a summer feeding program for children and teens.

Aquatic Facilities

The park maintains a year-round, indoor 25-meter swimming pool with water temperature kept at a comfortable 82 degrees. Various aquatic programs are available, including lap swim sessions, water exercise classes, and learn-to-swim programs for different age groups.
