About Silverado Park

A Brief Look Back

Tucked away in Long Beach's West-Side, Silverado Park spreads across 11.8 acres of community-centered space. Born in the 1930s during the Works Progress Administration era, this park has deep roots in the neighborhood and has been bringing people together for generations.

The land itself has an interesting backstory - purchased from the Moulton Estate back in February 1925. In those early days, an old converted barn actually served as the first clubhouse. Fast forward to 1938, and the current clubhouse was completed, featuring an auditorium with stage, basement playroom, kitchen, card room, and restrooms - many of which continue to serve the community today.

Evolving with the Times

Silverado Park hasn't just stood still over the decades. A swimming pool joined the scene in 1961, later getting enclosed around 1968 and receiving a fresh renovation in 2007.

The gymnasium came along in 1980 and got a beautiful new wooden floor in 2004 - something basketball players particularly appreciate for its quality. Other improvements have kept rolling in: better sports field lighting, spruced-up tennis and basketball courts, and playground enhancements that keep the kids happy.

There's also a popular skate park right next to the basketball courts where local teens and skateboarding enthusiasts can practice their tricks and hang out in a dedicated space.

Get Your Game On

For those looking to stay active, Silverado offers several options. The park houses several baseball fields for games and tournaments, but they sometimes could use a bit more TLC.

The tennis courts stay in good shape and see regular use from community members. Basketball enthusiasts can choose between multiple basketball courts - both indoor and outdoor options let you play rain or shine.

Beyond organized sports, there's plenty of open green space ideal for flying kites, stretching your legs, or just taking a peaceful stroll. Mature trees dot the landscape, offering welcome shade and creating gentle breezes within the grounds.

Something for Everyone

Silverado Park isn't just about physical facilities - it's a hub of activity and programming. Seniors can enjoy floral arrangement classes and exercise sessions, while the younger crowd benefits from after-school programs and youth sports leagues.

During summer months, the park kicks into high gear with summer day camps, teen programs, and a summer feeding program for children and teens. Need space for a private event? The community center is available and gets high marks for its amenities.

One of the park's greatest assets is its staff, especially those working with kids in the after-school programs. Their attentive, creative approach keeps children engaged with fresh games and activities.

Make a Splash

The park's indoor 25-meter swimming pool stays open year-round, with water kept at a comfortable 82 degrees. You'll come across it clean and well-maintained, with professional lifeguards keeping a watchful eye.

The pool hosts a variety of aquatic programs - from dedicated lap swim times to water exercise classes (free for seniors with a Senior Fitness Pass) and learn-to-swim programs for various age groups. Looking for a unique birthday party venue? The indoor heated pool is available for celebrations, complete with music and a dedicated party area.

Gather and Play

Weekend barbecues and family gatherings find a natural home in Silverado's several picnic areas. These popular spots fill up quickly during nice weather, hosting everything from casual get-togethers to community celebrations.

Parents will appreciate the clean, well-maintained playground equipment that provides a safe environment for children. With multiple playground sets designed for different age groups, kids from toddlers to pre-teens can find age-appropriate places to play.

Silverado Park provides space for diverse recreational activities and brings together Long Beach residents of all ages.
