About Shoreline Aquatic Park

Location and Layout

Nestled between the Long Beach Arena and Downtown Shoreline Marina, Shoreline Aquatic Park is a 12.3-acre green oasis in the heart of Long Beach, California. This public park provides open spaces and excellent views of the surrounding area.

The park's central grassy hill is well-suited for a quick climb to take in the 360-degree panorama. Situated on Queensway Bay, you can enjoy the ocean breeze while watching boats of all sizes move through the harbor.

Notable Features

Standing tall at the park is the 65-foot Lions Lighthouse for Sight, dedicated in December 2000 by the Long Beach Lions Club. While it won't guide any ships to shore (it's non-functional), this lighthouse is a beautiful symbol raising awareness for the blind and visually impaired.

At the base of the lighthouse, you'll discover historical images showcasing Long Beach's colorful past, including snapshots of the original municipal auditorium and the once-buzzing Pike amusement park.

The park also honors our military with a Navy memorial, adding a touch of historical significance to your visit.

Views and Surroundings

The views here? Simply spectacular. From different spots in the park, you can catch glimpses of the majestic Queen Mary, the impressive Long Beach skyline, and the fascinating Aquarium of the Pacific nearby.

On the north side, there's a sandy beach area facing Rainbow Harbor, complete with a wooden boardwalk pathway ideal for a leisurely stroll along the waterfront.

Note that the beach ends at a rocky shoreline designed for protection, so it's not ideal for swimming or water activities. This park is more suited for relaxation, picnicking, and enjoying the atmosphere rather than beach activities.

Recreation and Activities

The open layout of Shoreline Aquatic Park works well for casual walks, morning jogs, bike rides, or flying kites when the wind picks up. The grassy areas are good spots for picnics or family gatherings.

Year-round, the park transforms into a venue for community events, festivals, and charity walks. Its spacious design accommodates gatherings both small and intimate or large and lively.

If you're into photography, the sunset views of the harbor and city skyline can be quite beautiful. Many couples use this setting for wedding and engagement photos.

Visitor Information

Shoreline Aquatic Park welcomes visitors daily from 8AM to 6PM, attracting both locals and tourists alike.

Public restrooms are available throughout the area, although the cleanliness can be hit or miss depending on when you visit. Dogs are welcome but must stay leashed at all times.

What makes this park particularly convenient is its proximity to other Long Beach attractions - the Aquarium of the Pacific, Shoreline Village with its charming shops and restaurants, and the Catalina Express ferry terminal are all just a short walk away, making it an easy addition to your Long Beach adventure.
