About Rosie the Riveter Park in Long Beach
Rosie the Riveter Park and Interpretive Center is a 3.4-acre park located in Long Beach, California, at the corner of Clark Avenue and Conant Street. The park was created to honor the contributions of women who worked in defense industries during World War II, particularly those who worked at the adjacent former Douglas Aircraft Plant.
The park features a walking path with a historical timeline etched into the pavers. Along this path, visitors can find symbols, quotations, and facts detailing events of World War II. The park's design incorporates educational elements, allowing visitors to learn about local history and the broader context of the war effort on the home front.
A memorial acknowledging that "All Gave Some and Some Gave All" during World War II is situated within the park. This memorial, dedicated to military veterans and Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP), is nestled in a grove of trees and surrounded by flowers, providing a tranquil space for reflection on the sacrifices made during the war.
The park offers an interactive experience through a guided audio tour accessible via visitors' own cell phones. This feature allows guests to listen to 1940s music, radio broadcasts, and historical information as they explore the park, enhancing the educational value of their visit.
Rosie the Riveter Park serves as both a recreational space and an outdoor museum, blending green areas with historical artifacts and replicas. The park includes military flags draped on 1940s-era light poles and recruitment posters emblazoned on tiles, further immersing visitors in the World War II era atmosphere.
