About the Location

Location and Design

De Neve Square Park is an urban pocket park located in the affluent neighborhood of Holmby Hills in West Los Angeles, California. Situated at the northern end of Mapleton Drive where it intersects with Saint Pierre Road and Beverly Glen Boulevard, the park marks the boundary between Holmby Hills and East Gate Bel Air.

Despite its name, De Neve Square Park is actually trapezoidal in shape. The park is encircled by mature sycamore trees, which provide shade and natural beauty to the area. Adding to its charm are English-style street lamps from the 1920s, designed exclusively for Holmby Hills, which line the park's perimeter.

Historical Significance

The park holds historical significance as it is dedicated to the memory of Felipe de Neve, who is regarded as the founder of Los Angeles in 1781. Interestingly, De Neve Square Park also has a connection to pop culture history.

During the 1950s and 1960s, when Elvis Presley was residing in Los Angeles for his film career, the park was the regular location for his organized touch-football games.

Community Value

As one of only two parks in Holmby Hills, De Neve Square Park serves as a peaceful environment for relaxation and social gatherings. The park provides residents and visitors with a tranquil green space in the midst of the bustling city.
