About the Location
A Neighborhood Location
Situated in the heart of Koreatown, Seoul International Park might be modest in size at 3.4 acres, but what it lacks in sprawl, it makes up for in community spirit. This little urban retreat has become something of a second home for locals of all ages, offering a breath of fresh air amidst Los Angeles' concrete landscape.
Walk through the gates and you'll find yourself surrounded by green spaces that somehow manage to muffle the city's constant hum. The carefully tended gardens and trees create a peaceful spot where you can temporarily forget you're in one of America's largest cities.
Get Moving
Feel like stretching your legs? The soccer field with artificial turf that stays green year-round. green year-round (unlike my houseplants). The walking circuit takes about 5 minutes to complete - well-suited for a quick lunchtime stroll or as part of your daily exercise routine.
Several sports facilities are available. The baseball field and basketball court see plenty of action throughout the week, and if the weather isn't cooperating, you can even request indoor basketball facilities at the park office. Kids can join organized leagues in soccer, baseball, and basketball during the year - a great way to burn energy and make friends.
Family Fun
Parents, you'll appreciate the well-maintained playground with all the classics - slides, swings, and climbing structures that will keep the little ones entertained. This dedicated children's area provides a safe space where kids can be kids while you catch a moment's rest on a nearby bench.
And don't worry about your own fitness goals - the park features outdoor fitness equipment with various stations for working different muscle groups. It's like having a gym membership without the monthly fees or the awkward locker room encounters.
Community at Heart
The park has a strong community focus. The after-school programs provide a safe haven for neighborhood kids, while the popular summer camp offers field trips and activities that create childhood memories.
One of the highlights of the year is the annual Korean Festival, a vibrant celebration where Korean culture takes center stage through food, performances, and cultural displays. It's an event that celebrates Korean culture within the community.
If you're interested in having a say in park matters, the Park Advisory Board meets quarterly and welcomes community input.
Good to Know
Planning an event? The park's facilities can be rented for private gatherings, both indoor and outdoor. Just be sure to book in advance as these spaces are in demand.
When nature calls, you'll come across two restrooms - one inside the building and one outside - typically open until early evening. The park staff can answer questions or provide program information.
A word to the wise about parking: the parking lot has limited spaces, which can make for a challenging situation during busy times. You might have better luck finding street parking on San Marino Street just before Normandie.
While there's no designated picnic area, you'll discover plenty of shaded spots excellent for enjoying a meal outdoors. The park is generally well-lit after sunset, making evening walks a viable option.
Pup-Approved
Dog owners take note: Your four-legged friends are welcome here (on leash, of course) in most areas of the park. Just keep them out of the children's playground. The walking paths provide a pleasant route for both you and your canine companion to get some exercise - convenient for both you and your pet.
