Historic Statue
One of the notable features of Carthay Circle Park is a statue called "The Pioneer," designed by Henry Lion. This statue, also known as "Dan the Miner," stands about seven feet tall and weighs 512 pounds.
The statue was originally installed on September 25, 1924, as part of a fountain in the park. "The Pioneer" has had an eventful history, including being stolen in 2009 during a period of rising copper prices. However, it was subsequently recovered, repaired, and reinstalled in 2010, continuing to serve as a local landmark.
