Westbluff Park
About Westbluff Park
Location and Overview
Located on the outskirts of Moreno Valley, California, Westbluff Park spans a cozy 5 acres between Vista Heights Middle School and Canyon Springs High School. This long, narrow park might not be massive, but it offers a peaceful atmosphere, fresh air, and well-kept grounds. It's like finding a little green oasis in the suburban landscape.
Playgrounds
The main feature here is a three-story tall playground structure with a 90s vibe that might trigger some nostalgia. The main playground area (designed for the 5-12 crowd) boasts two 20-foot-tall tube slides (including one with a fun swirly design), a challenging rock climbing wall, additional smaller slides, ladders, a bridge, spinning chairs, and even drums for the musically inclined little ones.
Younger kiddos (ages 2-5) haven't been forgotten - they get their own playground section complete with age-appropriate slides, games, stairs, and a ladder. There's also a spinning toy that seems to be a hit with the younger crowd. While not the biggest playground you'll ever see, it's reliably clean, well-maintained, and offers a safe space for children to burn off energy.
Swings
What's a park without swings? Westbluff doesn't disappoint, offering two bucket swings meant for toddlers still mastering the art of sitting upright, plus two traditional swings that work for kids (and let's be honest, adults who still enjoy a good swing session).
Green Spaces
The park features green spaces flanking both sides of the playground. If you're looking for shade, head to the western section, but it's a bit more compact. The eastern green space gives you more room to spread out but fewer trees for cover on sunny days. The larger grass area at the back of the park often hosts youth sports teams practicing their skills.
The grass here is consistently well-maintained - well-suited for impromptu football or soccer games, frisbee tossing, or just rolling around in the grass (no judgment here). Parents will appreciate the open layout that lets you keep an eye on the playground while relaxing on the grass.
Picnic Areas
There's a picnic shelter with a table, grill, and trash and recycling bins. Not enough room? No worries - seven additional picnic tables are scattered within the park, most offering reliable shade for those hot California days.
Each table comes equipped with its own barbecue grill, making this a solid spot for family cookouts. The shaded picnic areas provide comfortable places to sit while watching the kids play or enjoying a meal in the fresh air.
Facilities and Parking
The central parking lot offers 22 regular spaces plus one handicapped spot. You should know that additional parking options, including street parking, are limited nearby. Fair warning: the lot can get pretty packed during school dismissal times, so plan accordingly if you can.
Restroom facilities are available near the parking lot. Like many public park bathrooms, cleanliness can be hit or miss, and some visitors have mentioned issues with lighting in these facilities. But they're there when you need them!
Dog-Friendly Environment
Good news for dog parents - your furry friends are welcome at Westbluff Park! Just remember to be a good neighbor and clean up after your pet. The open areas give dogs some room to stretch their legs, but you'll want to keep them under control at all times.
Best Times to Visit
For the most peaceful experience, try visiting during school hours when the park is generally less crowded. If possible, avoid times when the nearby schools are letting out - unless you enjoy navigating through traffic and crowds. Weekends and evenings typically offer a more relaxed atmosphere for families looking to enjoy the park.
Nearby Attractions
While Westbluff Park itself might be on the smaller side, its location near Poorman Reservoir (also called Poorman's Reservoir) and Pigeon Pass Valley opens up additional recreational possibilities, including some nice hiking trails. Keep your eyes open when exploring beyond the park - the surrounding area is occasionally visited by wild donkeys, so watch your step as you venture further afield!
