Maxwell Park

Community Heart

The stunning mosaic artwork on the exterior of the restroom facilities is the first thing you'll notice when you arrive at this green space in Oakland's Maxwell Park neighborhood. These aren't your average park bathrooms - the intricate mosaics make them some of the most distinctive public restroom designs in the city, and they reflect the creative spirit of the community.

The park stretches from Fleming Avenue to Allendale Avenue, between High Street and Monticello Avenue.

Places to Play

If you're bringing little ones along, the children's playground offers an excellent spot for them to burn off energy and make new friends.

Fancy a more cerebral outdoor activity? Pull up a seat at one of the chess tables where you can challenge a friend or perhaps meet a neighborhood chess enthusiast for an impromptu match.

Natural Touches

Time your visit for April if you want to catch the wildflowers in bloom. These seasonal splashes of color transform the landscape and make for some beautiful photo opportunities.

The majestic palm trees standing tall within the park add a distinctly Californian character to the space, while providing welcome patches of shade on sunny Oakland days.

A Park With Perspective

Unlike many of Oakland's flatter green spaces, Maxwell Park offers some elevation gain that makes even a casual stroll more interesting. These gentle slopes not only provide a bit more of a workout but also reward you with different views of the surrounding neighborhood.
