About Brookside Park
Recreational Facilities
Brookside Park stretches across a whopping 61.1 acres just south of the Rose Bowl Stadium, claiming the title of Pasadena's largest fully maintained park. It offers plenty of recreational options for outdoor enthusiasts.
In the northern section, you'll discover the Jackie Robinson Baseball Stadium - a proper field with seating for 4,200 fans and thankfully, restrooms too. The central area features two lighted softball diamonds with seating for 240 spectators. The Brookside Golf Course also occupies the northern end of the park area, extending the complex along the Arroyo Seco corridor - worth keeping in mind if you're navigating the grounds.

Looking for something different? There's a large, lighted multi-purpose field great for flag football or soccer games. Tennis courts, basketball courts, and workout stations dot the walking paths, giving you plenty of options to break a sweat. And if you're just in the mood for a casual stroll or jog, the expansive grounds provide plenty of space.
Visitor Amenities
Come hungry! The park is sprinkled with picnic tables and barbecue pits that anyone can use. If you've got kids in tow, they'll love the dedicated play area. Practical necessities aren't forgotten either - you'll find restrooms, drinking fountains, and even a speaker's platform with permanent seating for community events.
One of the best features is the mature trees that blanket the park, providing generous shade and adding to the natural beauty of the space. Being right next to the Rose Bowl gives it an energetic vibe, however it does mean parking can get a bit tight during major events. With its mix of facilities and open spaces, Brookside Park is popular with Pasadena locals looking to enjoy the outdoors - just plan ahead if there's something happening at the Rose Bowl.
Rose Parade Floats
Two pavilions within the park - Rosemont Pavilion and Brookside Pavilion - play a key role in Pasadena's most famous annual tradition. This is where Rose Parade floats are decorated in the lead-up to the parade and then displayed for the public to view up close.

If you're visiting around New Year's, it's a genuinely interesting way to see the floats without the crowds of the parade itself.
Playgrounds
The playgrounds at Brookside Park offer options for kids of all ages. The standout is definitely Reese's Retreat, a pirate-themed playground that transforms little ones into swashbuckling adventurers. Think ship structures, hidden treasures, and even sea monster features. What's particularly thoughtful is that it's accessible to all, with ramps onto the play structures and special swings.
Safety hasn't been overlooked - the playground surfaces are cushioned and well-maintained. An especially great feature is the sand and water play area, where kids can control water flow in the sandbox with the push of a button. The clean environment and diverse play equipment make it a hit with parents too.
There's another playground conveniently located near the Kidspace Children's Museum, which sits adjacent to the park and offers even more family-friendly activities if you're looking to make a day of it.
Hiking and Nature
Need a quick nature fix? Several trails lead up from the park into the hillside, offering both a cardio workout and some peaceful views of the surroundings. These connect to the broader Arroyo Seco paths, however you should be aware that accessing them might require crossing a street that can get busy at times.
Overhead, the Colorado Street Bridge arches dramatically across the park, making it one of the more striking visual features you'll notice while spending time on the grounds. The bridge adds a distinct architectural dimension to what is otherwise a naturalistic setting. What makes this place special is how it manages to feel like a nature retreat despite being smack in the middle of an urban area, with those magnificent shade trees and mountain views creating a tranquil backdrop.
Aquatic Center
At the southern end of the park sits the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center, a fantastic facility offering swimming programs for everyone from toddlers to seniors. They've thoughtfully included covered bleachers so you can comfortably watch swimming lessons or events without baking in the sun. The center is kept in great shape and offers various aquatic activities, including water aerobics for those looking for a gentler workout option.
Also worth factoring into a visit if you have an interest in historic architecture is the Gamble House, a landmark residence widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Arts and Crafts architecture in the United States, located at the southern end of the broader park area.
