Eddie Park
About Eddie Park
A Glimpse into the Past
Tucked away on the southeast corner of Chelten Way and Edgewood Drive in South Pasadena, California sits Eddie Park - a charming 0.75-acre green space with a story to tell. This little communal area, along with the historic Eddie House on its grounds, was generously donated to the city by the Eddie family.
The Storied Eddie House
Standing proudly within the park is the Eddie House, a two-story, 2,200 square foot building that beautifully showcases Transitional Craftsman architecture. While the house's second floor remains unused, the first floor buzzes with community life, functioning as a meeting place for local groups like the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
It's a beautiful example of historic architecture finding new purpose in modern times.
What You'll Find There
The park itself offers a simple but welcoming layout with an open lawn area where you can spread out a blanket and enjoy the California sunshine. Kids will make a beeline for the playground equipped with two swing sets and a jungle gym - great for burning off some energy.
A quaint three-foot brick wall frames the park's perimeter, adding a touch of old-world charm to this neighborhood space. If you're planning to stay a while, you'll appreciate the picnic tables dotted throughout the grounds - ideal for an afternoon lunch or casual get-together with friends.
One of the park's most distinctive features is its outdoor fireplace near some stone benches. Unlike many public parks, making fires is actually permitted here, creating a cozy gathering spot that feels especially magical in the evening hours.
Little Extras
Book lovers will appreciate the little free library where you can pick up something new to read or leave behind a title for someone else to discover - a small but meaningful way the park fosters community connections.
Note that there are no public restrooms available here, so plan accordingly when visiting.
Good to Know
The park operates on a first-come, first-served basis - no reservations are available for either the park or its green spaces. If you're curious about picnic table availability, you might want to check with South Pasadena City Hall before planning a larger gathering.
Eddie Park welcomes visitors daily from 6:30AM to 10PM, offering a peaceful retreat from the bustle of everyday life.
