About the Location
Park Overview
Rancho Cucamonga Central Park is a sprawling 100-acre public space located at the intersection of Milliken Avenue and Base Line Road. The park functions as a central hub for community activities and recreation in the heart of Rancho Cucamonga. With beautiful mountain views and well-maintained grounds, it offers a peaceful environment for visitors of all ages.
Community Center Complex
The park features a 57,000 square foot community center complex, which includes the James L. Brulte Senior Center and the Goldy S. Lewis Community Center. These facilities, opened to the public in May 2005, offer a wide range of programs and services for residents of all ages.
The community center is designed with lush landscaping, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The senior center provides numerous activities including dance classes, computer training, pool tables, and serves hot meals for a small fee to those over 55. The community center hosts various events and is available for rentals, making it a popular venue for parties and community gatherings.
Outdoor Amenities
Central Park's outdoor areas include expansive green spaces, walking and jogging trails, and picnic areas with tables and benches. The park features a playground for children with separate areas for younger and older kids, complete with slides, swings, and climbing structures. The playground is partially fenced to prevent children from wandering.
For fitness enthusiasts, there is an outdoor fitness court along the Pacific Electric Trail, offering free access to high-quality workouts. This popular trail connects to the park and extends for miles, perfect for walking, jogging, or cycling.
Environmental Features
The park's design incorporates drought-tolerant plant materials and a water-efficient irrigation system, reflecting a commitment to environmental sustainability. A notable feature is the presence of 200 palm trees throughout the developed 15 acres of open space. The park also showcases California native plants, which are particularly beautiful when in bloom.
Visitors will appreciate the Veterans Memorial within the park, featuring commemorative stones describing the branches of the military and statues honoring those who served.
The Bark Dog Park
Central Park includes The Bark, a 4.4-acre community dog park with three separate one-acre enclosures for large and small dogs to play off-leash. This newer addition features dig pits, agility courses, and fountains for canine visitors. The dog park includes special water stations for pets but visitors should note that there is limited shade in this area.
The main park is also dog-friendly for leashed pets, with waste bags and trash cans available throughout the grounds.
Practical Information
The park offers ample parking and is generally open from 8AM to 8PM Monday through Friday, and 8AM to 5PM on Saturday. It's closed on Sundays. Visitors should note that public restrooms are primarily available in the community center during operating hours, with limited or no access when the center is closed.
While much of Central Park's 100 acres remains undeveloped, the existing facilities and amenities make it a popular destination for Rancho Cucamonga residents seeking outdoor recreation, community engagement, and family-friendly activities.
