About the Location

A Nearby Retreat

Found in Sacramento's New Era Park neighborhood, Grant Park (formally known as Ulysses S. Grant Park) offers a peaceful retreat from city life. This modest green space might not be the largest park in town, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in charm and convenience for locals looking to enjoy some fresh air.

With its tranquil atmosphere and well-kept grounds, it's become something of a neighborhood sanctuary - the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think while enjoying a bit of nature.

What You'll Find Here

If you're bringing the little ones, there's a small fenced playground that, while not elaborate, provides a secure space for younger children to burn off some energy. It's simple but gets the job done.

Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the baseball/softball field complete with lights for evening games. The field hosts a variety of organized activities from adult baseball to softball leagues and even kickball matches. Fair warning though - the outfield has a few bumpy patches that could use some TLC.

The spacious grassy area is perhaps the park's most versatile feature. Regardless of whether you're throwing a frisbee, organizing an impromptu football game, trying your hand at bocce ball, or simply spreading out a blanket for a lazy afternoon picnic, this open space accommodates it all. The scattered shade trees make it particularly inviting on warm Sacramento days.

For the Dog Lovers

Though not officially designated as a dog park, four-legged friends are welcome visitors here. The open lawns provide plenty of room for your pup to stretch their legs, however do keep them leashed as per park rules.

A thoughtful touch is the water fountain with attached dog bowl located near the baseball diamond - meant for keeping both you and your canine companion hydrated during your visit.

The Basics

In terms of amenities, Grant Park keeps things simple. Bathroom options are limited to portable toilets, and you won't find permanent picnic tables or grills. If you're planning a picnic, you'll need to bring your own supplies.

Good to Know

The park falls under the City of Sacramento's park system and is maintained by the Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment department. You can visit daily between 6AM and 9PM.
