Spread across 7 acres, Closter Park is a retreat for sports enthusiasts in Salinas. There are two baseball fields, with one field featuring an electronic scoreboard and an outfield fence sitting 200 feet from home plate.

Feel like shooting some hoops? Four basketball courts await your next pickup game or solo practice session. Soccer fans will appreciate the soccer fields where locals often gather to play.

Playgrounds

If you've got kids in tow, you're in luck. The park features two distinct playgrounds tailored to different age groups. The larger playground keeps older children entertained with classic favorites like slides, monkey bars, and swings.

Little ones have their own dedicated space in a smaller playground designed with younger children in mind. Both play areas use wood chips and mulch underfoot - safety first, right? Many families enjoy these areas for outdoor play.

Community Spaces

Closter Park functions as a community gathering spot. The plaza area, charming gazebo, and open green spaces provide perfect settings for everything from casual barbecues to larger family reunions.

There's also a meaningful touch here - a commemorative Tree of Life planted on February 8, 2008, stands as a quiet symbol for healing and remembrance in the face of violence.

For those with dogs, The small dog park section gives your four-legged friends a safe space to run off-leash and make some canine connections. This thoughtful separation ensures everyone can enjoy the park in their own way.

Natural Features

A notable natural feature of the park is The large trees that create pockets of welcoming shade throughout the grounds. These mature trees offer perfect spots to sit back, catch your breath, and enjoy a moment of peace.

The clean, open layout makes navigation easy and accommodates both high-energy activities and quiet moments of relaxation.

Future Improvements

Exciting changes are coming to Closter Park! In 2022, the City of Salinas secured a substantial grant of $6,845,563 to revitalize the space. Plans include a fitness loop complete with exercise stations and lighting, a batting cage area, and an expansive themed playground.

The upgrades don't stop there. You'll eventually find a street skate plaza, picnic areas showcasing community-created art, an amphitheater-style seating area, a dedicated farmers market/event space, two restrooms, and enhanced landscaping throughout.

The park already features a skating area that will complement these upcoming additions nicely.

Open from 5AM to 8PM daily, Closter Park is a green space in Salinas's urban landscape with opportunities for exercise and social activities.
