Sports Facilities
Closter Park spans 7 acres and offers multiple sports facilities for active recreation. The park features two baseball fields, with one equipped with an electronic scoreboard and an outfield fence 200 feet from home plate.
Four basketball courts are available for visitors to enjoy pickup games or practice their skills.
Playgrounds
Families with children will appreciate the two playgrounds catering to different age groups. The larger playground offers various equipment such as slides, monkey bars, and swings for older children.
A smaller playground is specifically designed for younger children, with both playground surfaces covered in wood chips and mulch for safety.
Community Spaces
The park provides several areas for community gatherings and events. Visitors can utilize the plaza area, gazebo, and open green spaces for various activities.
A commemorative Tree of Life, planted on February 8, 2008, serves as a meaningful symbol for grieving and healing against violence.
Future Improvements
In 2022, the City of Salinas received a grant of $6,845,563 to renovate and improve Closter Park. Planned enhancements include a fitness loop with exercise stations and lighting, a batting cage area, and a large themed playground.
Additional improvements will feature a street skate plaza, picnic areas with community-made art, an amphitheater-style seating area, a farmers market/event space, two restrooms, and enhanced landscaping throughout the park.
