About Bryce E. Hanes Park and Jon Cole Skate Park

A Park with Heart: Honoring Local Heroes

Opened in May 2016, this 2.9-acre community space tells a story of remembrance. The park honors Bryce Hanes, a San Bernardino police officer who lost his life in the line of duty, and Jon Cole, a young skateboarder who tragically died while trying to save his parents.

Skate Heaven and Beyond

The Jon Cole Skate Park sits at the center of the park, providing a well-designed space for skateboarding enthusiasts. The ramps and features here aren't just afterthoughts - they're thoughtfully crafted spaces that local skaters genuinely appreciate.

Not into skating? No problem. There's a basketball court where you can shoot some hoops, and an outdoor fitness court packed with equipment for everything from strength training to cardio workouts. Perfect for those days when you want to skip the gym but not your workout.

Kids have their own space with a playground featuring unique climbing structures and rubber padding (because skinned knees are so last century). When summer temperatures soar, the splash pad offers relief, with children enjoying the refreshing sprays of water.

Take a Break

Scattered across the grounds, you'll come across picnic shelters and tables that make ideal spots for everything from casual lunches to birthday celebrations. These areas are roomy enough to accommodate family gatherings without everyone bumping elbows.

Yes, there are restrooms - though they might not always be open or in pristine condition, so plan accordingly. Mature trees create welcome patches of shade, while grassy areas offer space to toss a frisbee or let Fido stretch his legs (on a leash, of course).

Fresh Paint and New Growth

2024 brought some much-needed TLC to the park, including trimmed trees, fresh landscaping, and improved restrooms. The skate park got an artistic upgrade with new murals and art that add vibrant energy to the concrete playground.

Look forward to future enhancements too - the city has plans for playground improvements and an herb and fragrance garden that promises to engage beyond your sense of sight.

Where Community Happens

Bryce E. Hanes Park and Jon Cole Skate Park welcomes many San Bernardino residents. Whether you're a skater working on tricks, a family looking for afternoon activities, or someone wanting a quiet moment on a bench, you'll find space here.

Note that maintenance can vary depending on when you visit, and daytime hours are generally your best bet for enjoying all this community space has to offer.
