About the Location

Park Overview

Located in the Scripps Ranch community of San Diego, Jerabek Park has been a cherished local treasure since its establishment in 1984. This spacious public recreational area has a variety of features, from sports facilities to open spaces for families looking for a peaceful afternoon outdoors. What we really like is how well-maintained the grounds are - reflecting the community's care for this shared space.

Outdoor Amenities

The park has generous grassy expanses where you can spread out a picnic blanket, toss a frisbee, or fly a drone on clear days. If you're looking to get your steps in, the walking and hiking trail provides a lovely route to enjoy nature while keeping active.

Sports options abound at Jerabek. The baseball fields have been hosting friendly competitions and league games for decades, including a well-equipped little league facility complete with a snack bar that opens on game days (because what's baseball without some refreshments?). Basketball enthusiasts can shoot hoops on the full-court basketball court, while tennis players have their own dedicated courts for matches. The park has also kept up with trends by offering pickleball courts - perfect if you've been wanting to try this increasingly popular sport.

Children's Areas

Kids have plenty of space to burn off energy here. The park features two play structures set in sand areas, including infant swings for the littlest visitors. Parents of toddlers will appreciate the concrete paths that wind throughout the park - they're ideal for wobbly bike riders still getting the hang of balance. Meanwhile, the open grassy areas provide plenty of space for impromptu games of tag or catch.

Renovation Project

Exciting changes are happening at Jerabek Park. In September 2023, the City of San Diego broke ground on a $7.6 million improvement project that's transforming this already-great community space into something even better.

The upgrades include two new children's play areas, outdoor fitness equipment for those looking to squeeze in a workout, a fresh restroom and concession stand, and a dedicated picnic shelter for gatherings. Importantly, the renovations prioritize accessibility, with new ADA-compliant sidewalks and bleachers ensuring everyone can enjoy what the park has to offer.

Community Hub

Beyond recreation, Jerabek Park is an important gathering place for Scripps Ranch residents. During the year, it hosts various community gatherings, including the annual Scripps Ranch holiday party that brings neighbors together.

You should note that the renovation work is expected to wrap up in summer 2024. While some areas might be temporarily closed during construction, certain facilities like the tennis courts have remained open for use. The completed improvements should make the park more functional and accessible for years to come.
