About the Location
A Place of Remembrance
Found in Imperial Beach, Sellers-Keever Park is a memorial to Jonathan Sellers and Charlie Keever, two young boys whose lives were tragically cut short in 1993. More than just a somber tribute, this thoughtful space along the Bayshore Bikeway has evolved into a meaningful outdoor activity center where the community comes together to learn and reflect.
Artistic Touches That Tell a Story
The park's design speaks volumes through its 35-yard outdoor education area with a serene beach theme. At its heart lies a Lithocrete shell crafted by T.B. Penick & Sons, featuring a beautiful gradient that shifts from dark to medium to light blue - reminiscent of the nearby ocean waters.
Within this shell, you'll discover a touching LithoMosaic piece that keeps the boys' memory alive through incorporated photographs, glow-in-the-dark tiles that shine after sunset, and sea glass - poetically known as the "tears of the ocean."
A Space for Reflection
Take a moment to sit on the Sedimentary wall that encircles the shell, offering not just a place to appreciate the intricate artwork but also stunning views of the water beyond. This thoughtful design came to life through collaboration between San Diego County Parks and Recreation, the mothers of Jonathan and Charlie, and artist Amanda Conahan who helped capture the essence of remembrance.
Formally named the Jonathan Sellers and Charlie Keever Outdoor Education Activity Center, this special place honors two young lives while creating a nurturing space where children can connect with nature and learn in the open air.
