About the Location

Natural Urban Escape

The 15th Avenue Steps is a small natural area and public stairway located in the Golden Gate Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The steps run from Kirkham Street to Lawton Street along 15th Avenue, climbing a steep hillside with an elevation gain of approximately 110 feet.

This urban park features a long concrete staircase surrounded by trees and vegetation. Native oak trees cling to the hillside alongside the steps, providing habitat for both resident and migratory birds.

Scenic Views

From the top of the steps, visitors can enjoy dramatic views of the surrounding area. Sights visible from the upper portion of the stairway include St. Anne's Church, the Inner Sunset neighborhood, Golden Gate Park, and vistas stretching out toward the Pacific Ocean on clear days.

Dual Purpose

The 15th Avenue Steps serve both a recreational and practical purpose. For neighborhood residents, they provide a pedestrian shortcut up and down the steep hill.

For visitors and fitness enthusiasts, climbing the numerous stairs offers an opportunity for exercise while taking in scenic views of the city.
