Grandview Park

Panoramic Views

Despite its modest size of 3.98 acres, the park offers commanding views of the city and surrounding areas. From its 666-foot summit, visitors can take in panoramic vistas stretching from downtown San Francisco and Golden Gate Park to the Pacific Ocean, Marin Headlands, and the Sutro Tower.

Geological Significance

The park is geologically and botanically significant. Its bedrock consists of Franciscan chert, a 140-million-year-old rock formation that was once part of the ancient sea floor.

This unique geology provides habitat for several native plant species, including some that are rare or endangered. The dune scrub ecosystem found here is one of the last remaining examples in San Francisco.

Trails and Access

Grandview Park features a small network of trails, including wooden stairs that lead to the summit. The main trail is approximately 0.2 miles long.

Due to the park's fragile ecosystem, visitors are strongly encouraged to stay on designated paths to prevent erosion and protect the native plant communities.

The park is accessible via several stairways, including the notable 16th Avenue Tiled Steps located nearby. These colorfully decorated stairs serve as an artistic gateway to the park and have become a local attraction in their own right.
