About the Location
Park Features
Nestled at the intersection of Camden Avenue and Meridian Avenue, Almaden Meadows Park spreads across 32 acres of green space in the heart of San Jose. It's one of those peaceful retreats where you can escape the city bustle without actually leaving the city.
The landscape here is wonderfully varied. You'll find open fields, scattered trees, and a small hill that's great for a quick hike if you're looking to get your heart rate up. The hill rewards your effort with some pretty impressive panoramic views of the surrounding area. While exploring the short trails that meander through the park and up the hillside, keep your eyes open - coyotes have been known to make occasional appearances in the area.
The expansive grassy fields are just begging for a picnic blanket or a good book. They provide plenty of room to stretch out and relax, though watch your step as the terrain can be uneven in places with occasional holes in the grass.
Recreation Opportunities
If you've got kids or dogs (or both!), you'll feel right at home here. The park features a playground that's mainly geared toward older children, plus a basketball court and tennis court for when you're feeling sporty.
Dog parents will appreciate how the layout allows pets to play in the large grassy areas while staying at a respectful distance from the playground. Another thoughtful touch: there are plenty of trash cans across the grounds, making it easy to clean up after your four-legged friends.
Picnic Facilities
Planning a family get-together? The park's picnic areas come equipped with tables that make outdoor dining a breeze. For those who prefer their food hot off the grill, there are grilling areas available too. Just note that some sections have lost their shade trees due to removal, so you might want to bring a portable canopy on sunny days.
Accessibility and Amenities
Located in the Almaden Valley neighborhood, the park is easy to find and has plenty of parking - always a plus in the Bay Area. One heads-up: there aren't any permanent restrooms here, which can be a bit inconvenient if you're planning to stay for hours. There are water fountains scattered throughout, but they've been known to be temperamental, so bringing your own water bottle is probably a good idea.
