Park Overview

Found in the Park Wilshire area of San Jose, Doerr Park spreads across 11.7 acres of community space. Open daily from 7AM to 8PM, the park's hours give you plenty of time to enjoy the available activities.

The park's landscape is a mix of sprawling lawns and scattered tree groves that create a peaceful backdrop for your outdoor activities. They've recently spruced up the pathways, making your walks even more enjoyable. If you're looking to get some steps in, the half-mile walking path that loops around the park is great for a morning jog or an evening stroll.

Recreation Facilities

Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the variety of facilities. The newly renovated sport courts are now open and ready for action. You'll come across a basketball court complete with 10-foot rims and nets for your pickup games, an unlighted softball field for weekend matchups, and four unlighted tennis courts for your serve-and-volley needs.

Caught the pickleball bug? Two of the tennis courts have additional lines marked for pickleball - just remember to bring your own net. These courts can get pretty lively on weekends, but the atmosphere typically stays friendly and welcoming.

There are also soccer fields available, but you'll need to secure a permit if you're planning to use them. Fair warning: the park transforms into a hub of activity on soccer Saturdays, so plan accordingly if you're looking for a quieter experience.

The playground for older kids features tall slides, a three-level climbing structure, and a challenging rock wall. Parents will appreciate the thoughtful shade structure over the metal slides, preventing that dreaded hot-slide situation on sunny days. The toddler playground also offers good shade coverage, making it a comfortable spot even during warmer afternoons.

Community Spaces

Looking for a spot to gather with friends and family? The park's picnic areas come equipped with barbecue facilities that operate on a first-come, first-served basis. You can find numerous concrete picnic tables scattered across the park, some with sun covers for those who prefer shade.

The large grassy areas provide ample space for throwing a frisbee, lounging with a book, or walking your dog (leashed, of course). While some visitors note that these areas are more weeds than manicured lawn, they still serve their purpose as open spaces for community enjoyment.
