Park Overview

Hellyer County Park is a 178-acre urban park located in San Jose, California, situated just off Highway 101. The park is part of Santa Clara County's regional park system and features Coyote Creek meandering through its center.

Cottonwood Lake

At the heart of the park lies Cottonwood Lake, a man-made body of water that serves as a focal point for various activities. The lake is open for year-round fishing, stocked with catfish and bluegill, making it a popular spot for anglers of all skill levels.

Surrounding the lake, visitors can find picnic areas with tables and barbecue pits, providing ideal locations for family gatherings and outdoor meals.

Velodrome

One of the park's unique features is the Hellyer Park Velodrome, an Olympic-size cycling facility. This open-air, banked concrete track is used for both professional and amateur bicycle racing events, attracting cycling enthusiasts from across the region.

Playground and Water Features

For families with children, Hellyer County Park boasts a modern playground area. The playground features a 30-foot-high play structure complete with an enclosed slide, bridges, swings, and a cargo-net climbing course.

Adjacent to the main structure is a rock-formation splash pad with jets, waterfalls, and sprinklers, which activates when the outdoor temperature reaches 70 degrees Fahrenheit. There's also a designated area for toddlers with sand play, climbing equipment, and musical elements.

Trails and Nature

Nature enthusiasts can explore the park's flora and fauna along the various trails. The Coyote Creek Trail, a paved multi-use path, extends for 15 miles from Hellyer County Park to Anderson Lake County Park, offering opportunities for hiking, jogging, and cycling.

The park also features a self-guided nature trail that provides information about local plants and wildlife.
