Cottonwood Lake

Cottonwood Lake sits at the heart of Hellyer, a human-made oasis that's become the park's centerpiece. The lake is stocked with catfish and bluegill year-round, making it good for anglers whether you're a pro or just starting out.

Around the lake, you'll discover plenty of picnic tables and BBQ pits, ideal for an afternoon cookout. The water draws quite a crowd of ducks and geese too, adding a bit of wildlife theater to your lakeside experience.

Picnic and BBQ Areas

Scattered throughout Hellyer are numerous picnic spots complete with tables and grills, many nestled under the shade of mature trees - a blessing on those hot California days.

While some smaller areas work on a first-come basis, the larger gathering spaces need to be booked ahead of time. Each area is kept clean with plenty of trash bins nearby, so it's easy to leave no trace after your outdoor feast.

Playground and Water Features

Kids absolutely light up at Hellyer's impressive playground setup. The main attraction? A towering 30-foot-high play structure complete with an enclosed slide, bridges, swings, and a challenging cargo-net climbing course.

Right next door, you can find a rock-formation splash pad that comes alive with jets, waterfalls, and sprinklers once the temperature hits 70 degrees - excellent for those warm days. The littlest visitors haven't been forgotten either, with a toddler-specific area featuring sand play, age-appropriate climbing equipment, and even musical elements.

These play areas benefit from some strategic shade and are kept in great condition, making them a go-to spot for families, especially during summer.
